Ezekiel Bergmann was born in 1862,the second son of a German family in London. He was given the middle name Klaus after his paternal grandfather, who had immigrated to the England in 1842 to seek his fortune, eventually finding it as banker. Upon his death in 1865, his fortune was left to his only son Albert, Ezekiel's father.
As the second son of the family, Ezekiel was often in the shadow of his brother Jonah, who his father actively groomed to take over the family banking business. Ezekiel was shipped off to boarding school for most of the time where he found a talent for science.
As a teenager he contracted Scarlett fever while at boarding school. Although he recovered, he was left with very poor eyesight which requires special lenses to correct which he designed himself.
He attended Christ's College at Cambridge where he graduated with Ph.D.s in engineering and chemistry. With a more than adequate allowance from his father, Ezekiel set up a workshop in central London to pursue his passion for tinkering and invention. With his allowance and the money from occasionally selling his inventions he began traveling extensively, visiting exotic foreign countries to research new scientific theories and discoveries.
More to be added later.
