Sorting Things Out

This was admittedly not Nils' week. It had started out with quite a bang during the ill fated councilling session/cemetary trip, and come to a head tonight where he'd gotten odiously drunk, even for him, gotten THIS close to getting a night with Indigo only to lose out to Esperanza, of all things, and ended the night terrified for his lover's life.
Some combination of those factors made him decide that it would be a good idea to finally have that chat with Chad. Under that thought process he pulled Chad aside when everyone was leaving.
"Can I talk to you, darling?"

(Poor Nils, Esperanza is really doing number on him this week. )

(heh, I know, right?)

"Yeah. What's up?"

Nils smiled. "Chaddimus, darling, I'm sorry I haven't brought this up earlier. I know things have been hard, our relationship has taken on an interesting progression, and that's made things harder. But I... I'm really uncomfortable with how things have gone, with you being less than keen about staying faithful. I've tried to make the best of it, I've tried to adapt to that way of doing things, but I'm just not built that way."
Nils was terrified by what he was saying, but knew that he couldn't put it off anymore. "Listen, I need to know. Are you with me because you care, or because it's convenient? I... I'm more than a bit in love with you, and I need to know if this is going anywhere."

Chad thought for a minute about how to respond then decided for honesty. "I don't really have much of a choice in being with you. We had a thing that wasn't really meant to be anything more than just a thing, but then all this scion stuff starts to happen. To be perfectly honest, I'm not happy about forcibly being part of your group of friends. I didn't choose this. Is it convenient to be with you? Yes. Do I think I'll find anyone else to be with who will understand the whole child of a god thing whose pet cat keeps the homeless population down? Probably not."

Nils' face fell. He knew this was by far the most likely way the conversation would go, but that didn't make it any easier. "I am sorry. I didn't... I wouldn't have chosen this, for either of us. I know it must make your life signifigantly more difficult." He pulled a wine bottle out of his coat and took a long swig before continuing. "I guess... I guess I just want you to know that I do care about you, and I'll do anything I can to try and make it easier for you. I don't want to force myself and my friends on you just because of how things turned out."
He started to take another drink of wine, then stopped himself. "I should head home before I'm too drunk to drive."

"I didn't say I don't care. I do. It's nice not to have to lie. I'm just not as invested as you are."

Nils nodded. "I know. And thank you for being honest with me."
He turned to head to his bike, paused, turned around and kissed Chad briefly. That done, he ran off to his bike before he said something stupid.
