Very little is known about Patrick Byrne before he joined the CIA due to the agency's purposeful obliteration of any documents relating to their newest secret agent. Word of mouth and rumors suggest that he was born in Chicago in 1975 and served in the elite army 75th Rangers Regiment, 3rd Battalion, where he lead forces into both Afghanistan and Iraq. In 2004 he was actively scouted by the CIA to become an espionage/counter-espionage special agent. Little is known about his missions for the CIA except that he spent time infiltrating several middle-eastern and eastern european nations, making contact with friendly forces, and eliminating targets of opportunity.
Early this year Patrick was on assignment in North Korea, operating deep within hostile territory attempting to steal plans for the Korean atomic weapons program in order to convince the United Nations of their hostile intents. He had managed to infiltrate the korean weapons facility in Wonson, only to be discovered by Kim Jong-Il's personal elite guards. He fought his way through the facility and out of the compound, destroying several tanks, jeeps, and weapon production systems in the process. He stole an armored car and headed for the coast but in a daring, high-speed chase he was eventually run off the road and his vehicle tumbled down a cliff into the ocean.
Weak and wounded, but still alive, he crawled out of the broken vehicle as it slowly filled with water and found himself covered with glowing toxic waste, which the truck had been transporting to a dumping ground. He swam for miles with 4 broken ribs and a broken leg before finally reaching a spot on the coast where he could climb onto shore. As he lay there bleeding, he radioed back to his base for extraction, only to find that no one would acknowledge his communications. His mission had failed, and his presence could not be acknowledged at the risk of causing a global incident. The last thought that went through his mind as he passed out from blood loss was a vow to get revenge on the government for leaving him stranded. As his consciousness faded, Patrick Byrne died a slow and painful death.
When he awoke three days later, he was someone... something... else. His body had completely healed itself and he found that the radioactive waste had given him incredible powers over the control of his own body cells. He could change his shape and coloring to mimic others, he could detach parts of his own body, and he could even create fully functional clones of himself. He was more dangerous than ever before.
He managed to slip onboard a ship bound for China, and from there to America. Soon after he resurfaced, he was recruited by the guild for his extraordinary abilities and cunning. Although he is not generally the type to work well with others due to his unpredictable and dangerous nature, he recognizes that the guild is his best chance to achieve his revenge on the country that betrayed him. In his eyes the world was corrupt and the governments were the cause of this corruption. It was their blindness and compromise that lead to innocents like him suffering. He would have to bring them down and replace them with his own system, his own government. By any means necessary.
