Roscoe, in the campsite, the night after the corruption temple

Roscoe finished setting up his tent, and carefully arranged his favorite seating rug (the one with the red and yellow stripes on it)outside of it. His foldable writing desk, pen, inkwell, and a few key volumes completed his set up. He was ready for the long night to come.

After how things had gone with Kallista, Vedran was feeling a little less confident in his leadership skills. Still, his friends deserved his best efforts, and with that in mind, after dinner he sought out Roscoe, finding him ordering his things in front of his tent.

"Hey Roscoe - how're you doing?"

"Oh hey, Vedran," he smiled warmly, setting down his books. "I was just settling in to record today's findings. What's up?"

"Yeah - as awful as that dungeon was, we caught some good breaks. I wanted to thank you for that, for the way you handled things in the interrogation."

"You mean the poisons? That was just something I happened to have on hand, really. I'd gotten them for the 5th level fight, but then Monti said that if I got to use alchemical reagents, then they got to use them, and I figured it was probably best to hold off. Though really, I should probably look into more things like that, or stuff that puts folks to sleep first. I wonder if I can work up some kinda time delay, so the sleep kicks in first, and THEN the poison... " he rubbed his chin absently.

He smiled. "That yes - I dunno, maybe talk to Aleyn about it, he might have some ideas too. But I meant more the part where you *offered* them a painless death, though. That's not the kind of responsibility that people are always willing to take on."

"Oh, that part?" Roscoe shrugged. "It just kinda seemed the thing to do, is all. I mean, I've actually been thinking a lot about things lately, ever since that goliath, Errik, was gonna cut off that lady's hand. If we take prisoners, then we're responsible for them, and you don't cause pain to folks you're responsible for." He gave Vedran a shy smile, looking away to the campfire. "Like Sparky, or the Orphans."

Vedran smiled back, laying a hand on Roscoe's shoulder. "That's exactly what I mean. It takes a big person to commit to taking on those kinds of responsibilities. I really respect that."

Roscoe ducked his head a bit, uncomfortable with praise. "Thank you, Vedran, that means a lot to me."

"Well, I just wanted to let you know. So, do you keep records of everything we do?"

Roscoe nodded happily. "Oh yeah, I keep records of all kinds of things. The red journal, here," he picked up the stack of books from the writing desk, "This one is a brief, factual summary of each day, with a special notation made when we're out adventuring. Then this blue one, here, that's a more thorough diary-type journal, I go through about one of those a month. And then this green one here, that's my general arcana journal, I was gonna update that one with the stuff we found out about the sickness, and the Mark of Corruption, and crossreference that with the Lost Marks, and the geneaology stuff I'd found in Yonden, and of course the goo that we collected from the priest's body, and the stuff from the temple. I need to do more tests on both those samples. Basically, I do a lot of writing. Yes."

Roscoe's enthusiasm for academic pursuits was always a little infections, and vedran's grinned widened as he described his record keeping regimen. It was good to know someone was keeping good track of things, and at least with the books being kept in his stomach portal there was a much slimmer chance of any of it falling in to the wrong hands. "I wish I had the time to be that organized. Say - actually, before we head out, you should talk to Hwalna about the Dragonmark stuff. The Pak's been researching them for personal reasons, and I think you could probably help each other out."

Roscoe adjusted his eyebrows into an expression of surprise. "Ohhhh, good idea! Man, why didn't I think of that? As soon as I get done with these ones, I'm gonna go see if they want to compare notes. Thanks, Vedran!"

He chuckled - the eyebrows had been a genius idea, whoever had thought of them. "Hey no problem. I'll leave you to it then - have a good night!" he gave the warforged another clap on the arm, then headed off to see if he could find Aleyn. The sorcerer had been out of sorts at dinner, and maybe he could use some cheering up too...
