Esperanza "Ronnie" Maria Sanchez DeLeon. Her mother often calls her "Lancha", an abbreviated form of Esperanza.

Her hair is a deep chestnut brown and goes goes almost to her hips, although she often wears it up. Her eyes are a bright blue. She's always assumed that these were from her father, although she never suspected how right she was.
• What kind of distinguishing facial features does your character have?
Her eyes are large and particularly striking and almost hypnotic. She also has a smile that can light up a room.
• Does your character have a birthmark? Where is it? What about scars? How did he get them?
She has a small round birthmark on her upper right thigh. Strangely, despite an active childhood Ronnie has very few scars as she has always been a quick healer. She does have one scar on her neck near her collarbone. It is about two-inches long, but not particularly deep and is really only noticable from up close. Esperanza never mentions the scar and tries to avoid any discussion of it. All that she will tell anyone who asks is that it was a "very close call".
• Who are your character’s friends and family? Who does she surround herself with? Who are the people your character is closest to? Who does he wish she were closest to?
Esperanza is closest to her mother and to her friends in College station. She has tried her hardest to be a mother figure to her siblings, but despite her best efforts all three have slipped away from her. Her sisters Eva and Rosa now live in Los Angeles and New York, respectively, and although they still speak to her often, the distance has had an effect on the closeness of their bonds. Her brother Juan rarely speaks to her unless he needs money or is in trouble, often expecting her to bail him out, which she dutifully does.
Among her friends, Ronnie is closest to Nils, Bea, and Aimee. Although she won't admit it, she has had a crush on Nils almost since she met him, admiring his easy smile and outgoing nature. As her roommate, Ronnie feels a sisterly bond with Bea, often being there to comfort or encourage her, and the two often go out together to relax and unwind. Her relationship with Aimee is mostly based around their shared love of music. Ronnie will often ask Aimee to play for her so that she can dance and the two will feed off of each other's emotional expression in a sort of mixed-medium jam session.

Ronnie's biggest fear is not being able to save those she cares about. She already feels like she has failed her brother and Chrys, and she is terrified that she might lose more of her friends before this is over. Given the choice, she would rather let harm come to herself than to those she cares about. She doesn't really discuss this much with anyone, although she probably wouldn't deny it if directly questioned.
On a more material note, she has a horrible fear of snakes, and will refuse to be anywhere near them, often panicking at the mere sight of them. I imagine most if not all of her friends know about this.

She's had crushes on several boys and even dated a few, but she never considered them her "boyfriend", and never went further than kissing. Even when she has tried to make time for it, she finds that men are ussually too intimidated by her striking beauty to work up the nerve to ask her out. Because of her good looks and private nature men often think that she is stuck up or out of their league.

Refrigerator - Mostly homemade leftovers. In addition there are staple foods like tortillas, cheese, ground beef, onions, peppers, salsa, eggplant, butter, tomatoes, chicken, milk, juices, and other assorted fresh ingredients. Esperanza loves to cook, and although she is most comfortable with the traditional mexican cuisine that she learned from her mother, she has recently been trying to branch out into other areas, particularly italian and chinese. She watches the food network religiously and cooks dinner for her and Bea regularly. It's very rare that she will eat out.
Bedroom floor - Esperanza's bedroom is immaculate, dusted and vacuumed weekly and her bed made every morning. She learned to take care of a house growing up and has kept the habit into adulthood. The only thing on her bedroom floor is furniture.

Esperanza was far too young to remember her birth father leaving, but she still remembers when her mother finally kicked her stepfather out of the house. She was eight years old when her stepfatherfirst started to make crude sexual advances and innuendos towards her. By the time she was nine he had begun groping and touching her innapropriately, and she was too scared and confused to resist. Finally, one day shortly before her tenth birthday he got very drunk and came at Esperanza with a knife, attemping to rape her. Luckily, her mother came home just in time and began beating him with a broom until he dropped the knife and ran out of the house. Esperanza never saw her step-father again after that. Within a month he had divorced her mother and left for somewhere in west Texas. During the fight, Esperanza was cut across the bottom of her neck with the knife and had to be taken to the emergency room for stitches.
• Your character is getting ready for a night out. Where is she going? What does she wear? Who will she be with?
Since she works in a topless bar, Esperanza prefers to spend her nights out somewhere more quiet and subdued. She likes to hang out at coffee houses and the library on campus. She almost always wears jeans and a nice shirt, and if it is cool enough, her trenchcoat and hat. If it is warm she'll just tie her hair back and wear her sandals. Sometimes she will go with friends, but often she will simply curl up by herself in a corner of the library and read with a hot cinnamon latte.
