This might be more properly included in another section, as this is by no means canonical even in our game, just something that had been discussed by several of us previously. In keeping with the skeptical view we're taking towards the gods, as representations and archetypes, a few conversations have turned to what exactly it takes to form a new pantheon. Alongside that discussion, I know at least me, Tuck and Zari talked about the idea of, essentially the 20th century American pantheon, the modern legends. This what we came up with.
First off, it really helped coming up with at least the concept of the American pantheon's purview, what defined them as a whole. While the Yankee Pantheon in The Scion Companion has Industry, we decided that legends of America in the 20th century lend themselves more to the idea (and the name rip-off) True Grit. Its the embodiment of the blustering, larger-than-life attitude those legends seem to espouse. Essentially, as long as you can bullshit your way through it and you look awesome, for good or ill, you can manage it.
Anyway, these are the 'gods' we came up with:
Elvis - The King, obviously, god of music and really the embodiment of celebrity
JFK - the Martyred King, god of leadership and politics
Jacqueline Kennedy - the Widowed Queen, goddess of women
Marilyn Monroe - seemed only fitting with JFK, goddess of Hollywood and the power of sex appeal
John Wayne - honestly, he's essentially the god of manliness, at least as envisioned in his time and still a lot today
Richard Nixon - the dark side of power, this pantheon's Set, god of secrets and conspiracy
Babe Ruth - have to give credit to Pail for this one, but he's the god of sports
Chaplin/Kaufman/Carlin- the triple-aspected god of comedy and social gadflies
Patton - the god of war, obviously
Edison- the god of invention
Ford - the god of industry
Obviously not a full write-up by any means, but just something that seemed fun to play around with. Kit, Ella and I also discussed the concept of a Disney (proto-)pantheon, but I'll come back to that at a later date. Just felt like getting this up while i remembered it.
