Damage Control

David sat against the wall of Casa Dead Emery, looking out the splintered hole in the wall onto the nearby backyards and waiting for Addie.

Addie debated the efficacy of pacing around the block...  again...  before steeling herself and walking in. Sitting herself down near David, she didn't look at him, just sat staring into the distance.

"So. Should I be...  packing my shit?"

David cocked his head.

"What? No... That's not... I just wanted to talk. I mean... I can't blame you for making out with *me*. Even if... you know..."

Addie let out a long breath. "Oh thank god. I mean, I seriously thought... like, I put a breakup mix on my ipod." She shook her head, and leaned back against the wall. "So what do we do now?"

"I don't know..." David said, looking slightly lost.

"I guess... what do you want to do? Do you still want to be with me?"

"Uh, yeah. I mean, the problem here isn't exactly a lack of David lovin'." Her hands twisted together, and she picked at her already chipping nail polish.

"I kinda feel like an asshole for not figuring out it wasn't you. I mean, aside from the hair and eyeliner and stuff. Which, you know... don't think that you have to do or whatever. I like you like you are."

David looked visibly relieved.

"I just thought maybe... you might have liked the other me-s better..."

Addie gave him an incredulous look. "What? For reals? Oh honey, I was laughing so hard when I saw that hair. Like, I was supportive, because that's what you do, but... please don't go for the emo look. Unless you want to. But not for me. There's enough product going on here," she gestured at her own hair, "for the both of us, trust me."

David laughed in relief.

"What about the other me? The older one. The one who was actually good at stuff and... you know... better looking."

"The one who had years of practice doing shit, and was actually as confident as you usually bullshit you are? I just figured he spent time listening to his Addie tell him how awesome he is. I don't mind waiting for that."

She nudged him with her shoulder playfully. "Besides, I like 'em a little jailbait-y."

David smiled and put his arm around her, leaning into her shoulder.

"I guess I just feel like... you've always been totally out of my league, you know? I don't know how I lucked into this, but sometimes I feel like I hold you back. You could be with anyone you wanted..."

Addie rolled her eyes and snuggled closer. "Yeah, the girl with the weird clothes who's always drawing all the time and cuts herself, that's a real catch. And dudes are just lining up around the block for a girl called Galadriel Moonbeam - okay that one's sometimes true, but they're the creepy patchouli-smelling dudes who want to show you their van, and just ugh."

"Besides. I am with anyone I want. It's just a really small list."

David smiled and kissed her, holding her close as the sun set through the hole in the opposite wall. When the kiss finally broke he leaned his forehead against hers and grinned.

"Don't tell me you didn't spend some time thinking about a threesome with My Chemical David."

She smiled, and touched her forehead to his. "Don't pretend you weren't thinking about it too, or what you'd do with a harem of Addies."

David sighed over-dramatically.

"There's just not enough of me to go around. I guess I'll just have to try to be twice the man I am... So I can be the David you deserve."
