The most important thing is the world we live in. Why should it matter where we live, or what job we have, or who we date. It all pales in comparison to the task we have been entrusted with. It's our job to take care of the planet, being the dominant species. We have to clean up our own messes in the environment, we have to take care of the animals and plants of the world. We are their elder brothers and sisters, and we should all live according to that.

Mary is Nils' little sister, five years younger than he. Despite their age difference, they have always been close, partially because of their supernatural abilities. When Nils was suffering nightmares from his visions he would turn to Mary, and likewise if Mary was having issues with her Telekinesis, she would go to him first. She was also the first person he came out to.
She never had Nils' social issues. She never had any real control issues with her telekinesis, and she has a naturally forceful and outgoing personality that allows her to make friends quickly in a new place. It did also help that moves were less frequent during her preteen and teenage years.
On the upside of this, she has had a much more 'normal' childhood, and her parents were very relieved at this, in contrast to Nils who they adored but with whom they had their hands full.
On the other hand, she hasn't had quite the same learning experiences, and has not grown up nearly as fast as Nils. She is honestly still somewhat immature, very high school. She was held back a year moving from Texas to Japan, an unfortunate side effect of the native education the Anthonys always gave their children. She knows that she should be more mature, but all of her adult energy is focused on her conservation work, and she is quite happy to have the rest of her life match that of a significantly younger girl.
Mary has, over the years, become obsessed with conservation effort. She's active in animal rights groups, anti-pollution groups, and any other kind of earth friendly organization she can find. Since moving to Japan she's organized clean-ups of the base and animal rescue efforts, and when working in such a capacity she seems much more mature. She is currently planning on starting college in Japan in the fall, and plans on dedicating her summers to working with Greenpeace.
