    Questionnaire (Mary) Empty Questionnaire (Mary)

    Post by Queenofinsanity6 06/04/10, 01:46 pm

Q: What is your character’s name? Does the character have a nickname?
A: Mary Anthony. It's more or less nickname proof. She doesn't really have any that are worth noting

Q: What is your character’s hair color? Eye color?
A: Her hair is red-brown, with some curl to it. Her eyes are brown

Q: What kind of distinguishing facial features does your character have?
A: She shares Nils' slightly larger than fitting nose.

Q: Does your character have a birthmark? Where is it? What about scars? How did he get them?
A: She has a crescent shaped birthmark at the base of her head , behind her left ear. She also has scars on her feet from walking barefoot into a patch of barbed wire from a fence that had fallen to the ground, and a burn scar on her side from where she tried to call a cup of boiling tea when she was a kid.

Q: Who are your character’s friends and family? Who does she surround herself with? Who are the people your character is closest to? Who does he wish he were closest to?
A: Mary doesn't really have friends so much as a posse. She has one or two close friends, and then a bunch of people following her and carrying out her instructions. She heads a very popular environmentalist group for teenagers, and as such has plenty of people willing to bow to her every whim.
She really has two close non family members at the moment. Her boyfriend, Makoto, who she's been with for several years, and her best friend Reika, who is also her second in command in the group. She is also very close to her family, especially her brother Nils.

Q: Where was your character born? Where has he lived since then? Where does he call home?
A: Mary was born in England, and has lived in Italy, Germany, Texas, and Japan since then.

Q: Where does your character go when he’s angry?
A: She will either go to her room or office to work on the next protest, rescue, or clean up, or go to the closest park and get lost as well as possible, trying to get close to nature.

Q: What is her biggest fear? Who has he told this to? Who would he never tell this to? Why?
A: Her biggest fear is of losing the respect of her group. It is very important to her, and she has dedicated much of her time and energy to making it work. She has only ever mentioned it to Nils.

Q: Does she have a secret?
A: Her Telekinesis. That is exactly the sort of thing that could destroy her entire group's reputation.

Q: What makes your character laugh out loud?
A: Mary is a big fan of political humor and satire. She tends to love anything with snark to it.

Q: When has your character been in love? Had a broken heart?
A: Mary thinks she is in love with Makoto, but no one, not even she, is really sure of that.

Then dig deeper by asking more unconventional questions:

Q: What is in your character’s refrigerator right now? On her bedroom floor? On her nightstand? In her garbage can?
A: Tofu, bean sprouts, green tea, various other vegetarian fare, as well as more American style food belonging to her parents.
Pretty much everything is on her bedroom floor, she is extremely messy.
Her nightstand has a stack of newspapers, her laptop, and a few dirty dishes.
Her garbage can holds very little, everything humanly possible goes either into her recycle bin or the compost heap.

Q: Look at your character’s feet. Describe what you see there. Does he wear dress shoes, gym shoes, or none at all? Is he in socks that are ratty and full of holes? Or is he wearing a pair of blue and gold slippers knitted by his grandmother?
A: Mary goes barefoot whenever humanly possible, and as such has perpetually dirty, calloused feet.

Q: When your character thinks of her childhood kitchen, what smell does she associate with it? Sauerkraut? Oatmeal cookies? Paint? Why is that smell so resonant for her?
A: Tea, garlic, and chili. Tea was something her mother and brother developed a taste for in England, and she learned to love it from them. Her earliest childhood memories are of living in Italy and the amazing smells from restaurants as they passed them on the street. Chili is, of course, a holdover from her parents' Texan upbringing.

Q: Your character is doing intense spring cleaning. What is easy for her to throw out? What is difficult for her to part with? Why?
A: Mary doesn't really throw out anything, ever. Everything gets reused until it's physically impossible to continue, or donated to charity otherwise. She's even trying to convince her family to stop using toilet paper.

Q: It’s Saturday at noon. What is your character doing? Give details. If he’s eating breakfast, what exactly does he eat? If she’s stretching out in her backyard to sun, what kind of blanket or towel does she lie on?
A: Saturday is a school day in Japan, so, unfortunately for her, she's sitting in class.

Q: What is one strong memory that has stuck with your character from childhood? Why is it so powerful and lasting?
A: Shortly after the Anthonys moved back to England, Nils took her to a park they had gone to often when they had lived there in the past. The park became Mary's favorite place in their new home, and she will always remember the day a year or so later when it shut down because the land had been bought by a private contractor, who was planning on building homes on it. She watched with horror over the time period to follow as they cut down trees and leveled hills to make room for the new buildings.

Q: Your character is getting ready for a night out. Where is he going? What does he wear? Who will she be with?
A:If Mary is going out, it will either be to a vegetarian restaurant with Makoto, in which case she dresses up, or she's going to a park with Makoto, Reika, both, or perhaps even her group as a whole. That calls for more practical clothes.

    • What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Organizing my first clean up, back in Texas. It was amazing!

    • What is your idea of perfect happiness?
My family together again, Makoto and Reika at my side, and a cleaner, more animal friendly society.

    • What is your current state of mind?
Excited! Nils says he's the son of a god, which means I'm probably related to one too. It doesn't make Mom and Dad any less of our family. Just think of all the good I could do with divine power!

    • What is your favorite occupation?
Zoologist. I'm planning on going to school to become one.

    • What is your most treasured possession?
It's not exactly a possession, per say, but since my cleanup group is a school club, we have a club room, and I have a tiny office there. I just feel so much more official sitting at my desk in there.

    • What or who is the greatest love of your life?
    Nature

    • What is your favorite journey?
It hasn't actually happened yet, but I'm really excited about going to visit Nils in a few weeks. I will probably be able to help, and I can't wait to see what all the fuss is about firsthand. Maybe I'll even get to meet some of the people he mentioned?

    • What is your most marked characteristic?
My enthusiasm-when I get excited about something, it happens.

    • When and where were you the happiest?
After my first successful protest. Not long before we moved away from San Antonio, we staged a protest to stop a wild area on the edge of town from being turned into a parking lot. We attracted attention to it, and because of us the area was saved.

    • What is it that you most dislike?
People who act like the environment doesn't matter, that nature is just there until humanity has something better to do with the space.

    • What is your greatest fear?
Being discredited. If I gain a reputation for extremism, or spiritualism, or new ageyness, it could destroy everything I've worked to do.

    • What is your greatest extravagance?
My animals. I currently have seven living with me, and another five rescues I'm planning to release back into the wild when they're healed.

    • Which living person do you most despise?
Everyone who treats nature or animals badly.

    • What is your greatest regret?
Leaving Nils behind. He thinks we don't know, but I know how much he's been drinking since then. I can tell when he talks to me on the phone or over the internet. I know he didn't before then-we were so close, I should have known he would take it hard.

    • Which talent would you most like to have?
I'd love to be able to talk to animals or somesuch thing. Telekinesis isn't as useful as one might suspect.

    • Where would you like to live?
Wherever Nils settles, I'll stick close by.

    • What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?
Being alone and helpless to do the right thing.

    • What is the quality you most like in a man?
A sense of right and wrong

    • What is the quality you most like in a woman?
    Same as in a man

    • What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?
I know people think I'm young and frivolous, and outside of my work, maybe I am. I should work on that.

    • What is the trait you most deplore in others?
    Ambivalence

    • What do you most value in your friends?
Our common appreciation for nature and a willingness to work to protect it

    • Who is your favorite hero of fiction?
    Jane, from Tarzan.

    • Whose are your heroes in real life?
Jane Goodall, David McTaggart, my brother

    • Which living person do you most admire?
Nils. He's got a remarkable ability to keep going, even when he gets all this awful shit thrown his way. He's the strongest person I've ever met.

    • What do you consider the most overrated virtue?
Prudence. You've got to be loud and over the top to get things done!

    • On what occasions do you lie?
When it protects those I care about, whether my friends, my family, or nature

    • Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
    Something has to be done!

    • If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
Anything that would make people listen to me more.

    • What are your favorite names?
I love nature names, whether flower names, season names, or whatever else. If the name is connected with nature, I adore it.

    • How would you like to die?
    Protecting something important

    • If you were to die and come back as a person or thing, what do you think it would be?
I'd love to be a dolphin or whale. Beautiful and big and graceful in the water. Plus, if I am one, it means they're not extinct yet.

    • What is your motto?
No guarantee anyone else will do it, so I have to.
